Honorary Psychologist / Group Facilitator : The Mood Course. 1 year placement.

 

Commencing  5th September 2017.  Tuesdays 9.30 – 5.30pm.

Introduction:

The Mood Course was first developed by Howard Edmunds, Group Analyst in 2001, drawing on a combination of approaches: C.B.T.  mentalization  interpersonal therapy IPT,  mindfulness,  relaxation, and group analysis. The course and has been independently tested as clinically effective by Sussex Partnership NHSTrust using BDI and CORE.  To date The Mood Course  has been run seven times ; four in the NHS and three at BTC.  It is part of an on-going research programme that you will contribute towards as part of your role.

Role:  Honorary Psychologist.

Tasks:

Co-facilitate The Mood Course; a combined psychoeducational and therapeutic group program for adults with enduring affective disorders.

Oversee clinical audit of clinical outcomes using BDI, C.O.R.E. and IIP64. Gather data, collate, analyze and prepare reports on outcomes.

Provide support to Course facilitator, including setting up room, preparing materials.

Attend pre and post groups to reflect on work.  Attend fortnightly clinical supervision.

Administrative duties including contacting clients, taking bookings, updating marketing and website materials, keeping notes of sessions and register.

Providing administrative support to BTC office when required, working as part of a team.

Offer individual sessions to clients, alongside course facilitator, prior to starting on the course, helping to motivate clients & clarify their goals for the course.

Person Specification:

 

Essential Criteria:

Interest in working with clients experiencing chronic affective disorders including anxiety, low mood and mood swings.

Completed at least two years of BSc Psychology Degree or a form of therapy or

Interest in working within a psychodynamic framework.

Interest and aptitude for group work, including an experiential interpersonal skills development group.

Able to commit to at least one year to develop the project.

Reliable, punctual and positive work attitude.

Willingness and ability to reflect on own internal world through supervision and personal reflection.

Awareness of and commitment to equal opportunities.

 

Desirable criteria

Ability to facilitate a psych-educational program, facilitating group discussion, pair work, presenting information using accessible language.

Ability to operate i.t. equipment; projector.

Experience of personal psychotherapy (individual or group)

Terms and conditions:

This placement is unpaid.  Travel costs and other expenses will be reimbursed.  Fortnightly supervision, pre and post group meetings are provided.
