Co-Directors

Howard Edmunds (Clinical Lead)

As Co-Director clinical lead at Brighton Therapy Centre I am  committed to make high quality psychological therapies more widely available to local people in Brighton and Hove.   Our  mental health is significantly  affected by the quality of our relationships and the work, family or social groups that we belong to.  Therapists and clients alike, need to belong to a strong community in order to flourish.  As a co-Director, I am privileged to work with a thriving community of practitioners who work together to offer high quality services to our clients.   My main role is to help new clients seeking to find the therapy or other intervention to best meet their individual needs. We look at each individual’s particular situation and recommend which of the many therapies we think will be of most help. I also oversee the Brighton Therapy Centre Continuing Professional Development programme for therapists, which includes the reading group, supervision groups and reflective practice groups.

I am also a  UKCP registered Group Analyst  offering both once and twice weekly Group Psychotherapy and  individual Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.  Prior to my current role,   I worked for six years as an NHS Principal Adult Psychotherapist offering  specialist Psychotherapy, assessments, staff training and  clinical supervision at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.  I was also convenor and trainer for the Sussex Partnership NHS Supervision Training, having since transferred my training role to Brighton  Therapy Centre, .  Whilst working in the NHS, I developed an evidence based course for people experiencing depression, anxiety and mood swings:   The Mood Course  I have a special interest in affective disorders and have found that groups can be particularly effective in helping with people who experience these difficulties.

I trained at WPF Counselling & Psychotherapy as a Group Analyst..  I have  completed further training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy  and Mentalization Based Group Therapy.  I am a Qualified Clinical Supervisor having completed a one year training titled ‘Using the Group as a Medium for Supervision’ at The Institute of Group Analysis (IGA).

Kerry Evans (Business Lead)

In my role as Co-Director Business Lead at the Brighton Therapy Centre I am focused on developing the Centre’s commitment to clinical excellence and making its services widely accessible and sustainable.

To me, accessible means affordable to all sections of our community, but it also means making our therapies welcoming and relatable.  I believe that talking about therapy in a language that is easy to understand helps it become more democratic and collaborative.

I am a BACP accredited therapist with a PGDip and MSc from the University of Brighton.  Currently I am undertaking a Diploma in Supervision from the Institute of Group Analysis.

The therapy I offer is Humanistic in its approach, emphasizing the uniqueness of the individual and their ability to fulfil their potential given the right circumstances and support.

Prior to joining BTC I managed the services of The Sara Lee Trust where I was also Deputy CEO and a practising therapist, working mainly with clients in cancer and palliative care.
